Privacy Policy

Overview

OilShield is a privacy-first, on-device household resilience app. It helps households understand and manage cost-of-living increases driven by higher oil prices. All personal data — transactions, budgets, household configuration, and receipt images — is stored exclusively on your device.

OilShield has no backend server, no user accounts, and no cloud database. We have no way to access your data because it never reaches us.

What OilShield Stores — On Your Device Only

The following is stored locally on your device in an encrypted database:

• Expense transactions you enter manually (date, amount, category, notes)
• Household configuration (optional, neutral role labels only)
• Budget settings and spending categories
• Receipt and bill photos you choose to capture (stored in app-internal directories, never visible in your system photo gallery)
• Parsed receipt data after on-device OCR processing
• Public price feed data from government sources (EIA, AAA) — public data, not personal

What OilShield Never Does

• Never connects to any OilShield server or cloud database
• Never links to your bank, credit card, or any financial institution
• Never uploads receipt images or parsed receipt data
• Never uses analytics SDKs that fingerprint your device or behavior
• Never serves ads or shares data with advertisers
• Never auto-backs up your data anywhere
• Never processes your images on a remote server — all OCR runs on your device

Receipt and Bill Photos

If you choose to use the receipt scanning feature, photos are captured and processed entirely on your device using on-device optical character recognition (OCR). Images are stored in an app-internal directory not accessible to other apps or visible in your system photo gallery.

You control how long receipt images are kept:

• Delete immediately after parsing
• Keep for 7 or 30 days, then auto-delete
• Keep indefinitely until you manually delete

You can delete all receipt images at any time from the Settings screen.

Public Price Data

OilShield optionally downloads publicly available price data — such as regional gas prices from the U.S. Energy Information Administration (EIA) and AAA — to help you compare your logged prices against local averages.

OilShield AI — Prompt Builder

The OilShield AI feature builds a personalized prompt that you copy and paste into any AI assistant of your choice (Claude, ChatGPT, Gemini, or others). OilShield does not make any AI API calls itself.

The prompt always includes context from public data sources (EIA forecasts, energy market data). It optionally includes a summary of your spending exposure — but only if you explicitly turn on the data toggle. A preview of exactly what will be included is shown before you copy.

Data Security

Your data is protected using platform-level encryption:

• On iOS: iOS Data Protection (encrypted when device is locked)
• On Android: Android file-level encryption

The app can be locked with Face ID, Touch ID, fingerprint, or PIN so that others cannot access your financial data if they pick up your device.

Your Data Controls

• Export: Export your data as CSV or JSON at any time from Settings. The app opens your device's share sheet — you choose where it goes. OilShield never initiates an upload.
• Delete: Delete individual transactions, all receipt images, or all app data from the Settings screen at any time.
• Receipt retention: Configure how long receipt images are kept on a per-category or global basis.

Children

OilShield is designed for adults managing household budgets. It is not directed at children under 13 and does not knowingly collect information from children.

Changes to This Policy

If this privacy policy changes, the updated version will be posted at this URL with a revised effective date. Because OilShield collects no personal data, changes are unlikely to affect your privacy in any meaningful way.
